Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read

September 29 – October 6, 2007

We are celebrating Banned Books Week in Rentschler Library.  Come by and take a look at our interactive display.  We are showcasing a selection of books that have been challenged or banned for social, political, sexual, or religious reasons.  You might be surprised to see some of your favorite books and to learn the reasons why they have been removed from libraries and schools.

According the the American Library Association Office for Intellectual Freedom, the most frequently challenged book of 2006 was And Tango Makes Three, by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell.

We want to know what you think of this children’s picture book, so we have put a copy on display for you to read.  After reading it, please fill out the short survey to express your opinion.  We will post the results on this blog later this month, so stay tuned!
