Women's History Month

MUH has a variety of events scheduled for March, all with the purpose of getting YOU thinking about the way women are represented in politics, art, news, the media, etc.

Regionals Writing Contest [Details]
Miami University students are invited to submit an essay, poetry, prose, fiction, research paper, or ANY form of creative writing that addresses the theme: “Writing Women Into History”. First Place will receive a $100 gift certificate to MUM or MUH Bookstore & Second Place will receive a $50 gift certificate . The submission deadline is Friday, March 30th, 2012. “Presentation: Accessibility & Citizenship” [Details]
Tuesday, March 13th at 2:30 pm in Wilks
Julie Minich will kick off “(Re)Imagining Women: Women’s History Month at MUH” with a special presentation & discussion of “Accessibility & Citizenship: Disability Images in Chicana Feminist Murals.”

Film: “I was a Teenage Feminist” [Details]
Wed., March 14th at 4:00 pm in Wilks
Join us for what promises to be an exciting film & provactive discussion. This documentary film hunts down the answers to questions many women are grappling with about their roles & identities in today’s society.

Women’s Read In [Details]
Tues., March 27th from 11:30 am to 1pm in the Multicultural Center
We invite you to listen & share passages from writing by & about women’s history, lives, & experiences. You can bring your own favorite reading to the Multicultural Center, or choose from a wide selection that will be provided on site by Rentschler Library.

Film: “Miss Representation” [Details]
Wed., March 28th at 5:30 pm in Wilks
This film explores how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. It includes interviews with “big names”–including Condoleeza Rice, Margaret Cho, & Gloria Steinem–while revealing startling facts and statistics that will leave the audience shaken and armed with a new perspective.
