You will need to log in with your MU ID and password when accessing these resources from off campus

IEEE Explore

  1. Enter your topic in the search box and search.
  2. At the top of the results list, you can limit to journal articles by checking the box next to “Journals & Magazines.”
  3. Using the left hand menu bar, limit to a range of publication dates and more.
  4. To read an abstract, or summary, of an article on your results list, click on the title or on the “Abstract” link.
  5. Most content has full text available by clicking the PDF link at the bottom of each citation. If the icon of a lock is locked, you’ll need to click the yellow "Find It!" button button to check for the full text in other databases.

  1. Type your topic into the search bar. For the ethics in engineering assignment, you might want to try entering this: ethic* . The * at the end tells the database to search for any form of the word ethic, for example, ethics or ethical.
  2. On your results page, use the menu on the left side of the screen to narrow your list of results. Options to consider:
    • Language: English
    • Document type: Journal article
    • Year: Check the boxes next to the years you want to include in the search.
    • Controlled vocabulary: This gives you a list of suggested terms related to your search. Check the ones that most closely match what you are looking for.
    • If your results list is still too large, you can add additional keywords in the “Add a term” text box. This tells the database that you want articles that meet all the previous criteria and also include the new term you entered.

Finding Full Text

  1. When you have a manageable results list, click article titles to see their abstracts.
  2. After reading the abstract, if you want full text, click the yellow "Find It!" button button. If the complete article is available online, you’ll see a link to it highlighted in blue on the new window that opens. If there is no blue highlighted link, that means that the complete article is not available online.
